| I feel like I am at a crossroads in life right now. I don't know why I have that feeling, and the signs aren't labeled very clearly, but that's the way I feel. Please pray. Thanks...

| Please remember to wear sunscreen and limit your exposure to the sun from 10am- 2pm, the peak hours for solar radiation output. I had an interesting experience last Saturday, during which I neglected to apply an adequate amount of sunscreen to various lily-white parts of my body, and proceeded to hit the beach. To make a long story short, I ended up falling asleep on the beach for several hours, after which I woke up refreshed, but burned to a cinder. I made the mistake of following this exposure up with attending a YAC event the next day and trying to gut it out at work on Monday. Here is a picture of the back of my legs, taken on Tuesday morning:

Again, please try to be smarter than me when it's neccessary to be outside in the sun. If you saw me walking now, you would laugh, because my legs and my back are burned, which means I'm hobbling around like an old man. I need a cane.
-END OF ANNOUNCEMENT
In other news, I did actually have a good time this last weekend, aside from feeling like one of the crumbs in the bottom of the toaster from about Sunday afternoon on. I got to visit with family in Grand Rapids, I got to go to Lake Michigan (ay caramba...), I got to eat at Red Lobster on the way home from MI. and I got to go tubing and jet-skiing at the YAC event on Sunday afternoon. Furthermore, Pinnacle was apparently feeling particularly generous this 4th of July, so I got a bonus check FedExed to me yesterday. I guess an extra 15 dollars never hurt anyone. On the agenda for the 4th: Watching Independence Day, sitting down to a meal with the family, putting gauze on my legs, and drinking lots of fluids. Happy 4th, everyone... | | |
| It's been a while since I've bothered to update this page, mostly because life seems to have fallen into a cycle best described by the words "work", "eat", "sleep" and "repeat". Today, however, was slightly more interesting than the rest of recent history. Not loads more interesting, just slightly. For those of us in somewhat of a rut, even this may be cause to celebrate. Why? I only worked a half-day at Paragon Landscaping today, because our crew blew through the tasks assigned to us and simply had nothing left to do after 11:30 am today. I went home, took a shower, and was faced with the prospect of a free afternoon (!!!), which I promptly began to waste by lying down for a short nap. I was shortly awakened, however, by a knocking on the front door. It turned out to be the pizza guy, bringing me my lunch, which I was glad to eat, having had nothing since supper the night before. I spent the rest of the afternoon reading State of Fear by Michael Crichton and watching several episodes of The O.C. Nice. Went to pick Zach up from work at Chick-Fil-A around 7, and (here's where it gets good) we then proceeded to Putt-Putt for several rounds of mini golf. I can see how golf of any sort, whether real or mini, might become frustrating if taken too seriously. For me, however, it is rather relaxing. I should Putt-Putt more. Anyway, the highlight of the outing (aside from several very nice holes-in-one from me, and one from Zach) was when Zach managed to bounce his golf ball out of the hole we were playing, off the edge of the course, out through the fence and into the parking lot. Normally, this would be a minor annoyance, easily solved by going though one of the gates in the fence to retrieve the ball. Zach, however, who would later claim to have "not noticed" these rather conspicuous gates, decided instead to roll though the 10-inch gap between the bottom of the chain-link fence and the concrete of the golf course. All this in his formerly spotless and pristine work uniform, which is now somewhat less spotless and as pristine as only a pair of dark pants with concrete dust all over them can be. I believe that my reaction upon witnessing this epic occurence was "You've got to be kidding me..." In any case, it provided some comic relief in the midst of a rather less than stellar golf performance from the both of us (I can't speak for Zach, but the sun was in my eyes for all 36 holes). All in all, it's been a good day. In other news, I have next Thursday off, so that is the question I pose to you today: what to do with an entire day of freedom from work obligations? I had considered flying somewhere, since I can fly most anywhere (except the west coast) and be back in a day. At this point, it's just one of many wonderful and exciting options, though, so I would like to hear some ideas for the others. This is my stop; I'll be getting off now. Good night...

| Woking 7 days a week is tough. But that's only if you have a job at a Chinese restaurant. Working 7 days is also tough, but with fewer veggies and less pork and chicken than the aforementioned option. All that to say, I am currently on the "I have no real days off" schedule. So pray for me, If you think of it. Also, just wanted to mention that my girlfriend was here on Saturday. That was sweet. Really. For those of you surprised to hear that I have a girlfriend, let me just say that I am too. I know I wouldn't put up with myself very well, and that's me, not the amazingly cool person that is Michelle. Also, on a much lesser note, I'm about to start one or more of the books that were recommended to me in the comments section of my last post. I might remember to update as I read, or more likely I will forget and not actually post for another month. Anyway, if you are spending a moment of your precious time reading this post, I thank you for the vote of confidence in my writing ablities, or as the case may be, your idle half-interest in what I have to say. More later.

| It's snowing. April 14th. It's snowing. If I was in Anchorage, Alaska, at this precise moment, there would be less snow falling there.
Reasons why I'm glad I'm not in Anchorage:
1. The people I love are not in Anchorage. 2. See number 1. 3. See number 2. 4. They don't have Red Lobster or Steak 'N Shake restaurants in ANC.
In other news, I got another job this past week. In addition to working for Northwest Airlines at the Fort Wayne International Airport, I am also working for Paragon landscaping. My first day at my new job (Thursday) was not the best day I've ever had, due in great part to the cold weather, wind, constant rain, and the occasional downpour of stinging little ice pellets. April 12th. Anyway, yesterday was better. First of all, the sun stayed out for most of the day, and the temp was closer to 50 degrees F than 20 degrees. I also got to plant some trees, rose bushes, and other various small plants. Not that I particularly enjoy being filthy, but getting your hands dirty while doing some real work somehow makes the work more rewarding. Maybe it's a tangible reminder of the fact that you've done something worthwhile in excess of just sitting back and twiddling your thumbs. In any case, I enjoyed work on Friday. Today I watched Jarhead. If you are not a fan of profane and vulgar language, you will want to avoid this movie like the plague. All I will say about it is that, if at all realistic, it provides some interesting insights into the life and psyche of the American soldier. I believe it's based on a book; I may want to pick that up sometime. This makes for a somewhat awkward segue into my question of the day, which I would love to have answered. If you could recommend to me one book from each of the following genres (Contemporary fiction, Classic fiction, Contemporary nonfiction, Biography) to read right now, what would it be?
Reminder: HAVE YOU FINISHED YOUR TAXES YET? Time is running out. Please get them done.
